Researching Geneology and SLC's Culinary Scene

First appointment on Tuesday morning was at the FamilySearch Library where we got a tour through this gigantic library and archives. The FamilySearch Library of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is one of the largest genealogical libraries in the world. In 1894, the Genealogical Society of Utah was created for the purpose of sharing information and educating the public about genealogy. The society later became the FamilySearch International and is now located on Temple Square on five floors. The library’s public collection includes over 1.3 mio rolls of microfilmed genealogical records; 190,000 microfiche; 340,000 books, serials, and other formats - really impressive! Also, the library is well staffed with expert geneaologists and many trained volunteers from around the world.

Next stop: UMOCA - the Contemporary Art Museum in downtown (photos above), not too far away from the Symphony's Concert Hall (right). We took the  train (UTA Trax) to get to another wonderful bookstore in town, not too far away from the historic Courthouse/City Hall (photo below, left): Ken Sanders' Rare Books. The owner is consulting at the Antiques Roadshow (similar to Germany's  "Kunst & Krempel").

With chef Raymond Mucillo (who has a university degree in Ancient Philosophy!) we met at Petunia, the Market Piggy Bank, and went on a culinary tour: Beehive Bites & Sites - Market & Brewery.

First, we walked over to Bewilder Brewing Company (below) - one of many excellent microbreweries in town! - had a taste of their beers and a nice "Bavarian-inspired" snack with Bratwurst, sauerkraut, "pretzel".

Tony Caputo's Market & Deli is a global (not only Italian) deli store with a superb selection of things like cheeses, salamis, chocolates, oils and balsamicos and much, much more. In their adjacent restaurant we had a little plate of their specialities and it was really good!

Last stop: Raymond's own restaurant, The Tasting Room, newly opened two months ago, and, a real highlight in the culinary scene of SLC! They have a fantastic wine collection, a bar and they serve excellent charcuterie plates (photos above). Met with one of the owners, too, got a tour and enjoyed their food and wine.

It's fascinating how many murals there are in the city, passed a couple more today:
