Leaving Elko in a Haze

Brain still spinning, filled with inspiration and ideas, we left Elko on Sunday morning towards Salt Lake City. Drive was easy, dry roads even on mountain passes (about 7,000 ft/over 2,000 m) not much snow. Switched the cruise control to 80 mph (130 kmh) and on we went.

Beautiful high desert scenery of the Great Basin, even without sun! The Ruby Mountains are only one of many mountain chains lining up on the Great Basin. Passed "Beverly Hills" and the "big city" of Wells and entered West Wendover, on the border to Utah.

Endless horizon

Beverly Hills - not California!

Stopped there to check out Lee's Liquor Store - boy, that is the largest liquor store I've ever seen - rows of wine, beer, whiskey, moonshine, tequila, wodka, gin, etc! People from Utah seem to buy their liquor there and carry big loads out to the cars. In Utah alcohol rules are stricter and alcohol is more expensive.

We arrived to SLC smoothly, checked into our hotel, and returned the car to the airport. Stay tuned for our SLC experiences - just be patient, since internet is real slow in our hotel room.
