Farewell and Welcome

Wednesday, at 5 am, we got up to get ready for our departure from SLC. Took the train to the airport (about 20 min and $ 2,50!) which is very modern, clean, airy and nice. A real convenient airport (photos below), and, breakfast there was excellent, too!

Flight was short, about 2 hours to LAX. And, guess what: at arrival it rained out of buckets at 57 deg F! In SLC we had 65 deg F (18 C) the day before! Luggage was delivered quickly, after not quite 10 min., car rental agent was friendly (not always the case), efficient, and choice line was terrific: about 10 midsize-SUVs to choose from. Difficult decision, but since all were pretty new, we took the one with lowest mileage, a RAV4 in black.

Out of L.A. we drove in slowly declining rain, which is always a bit tricky with all the traffic, some crazy drivers and the many lanes on the interstates. Drove through Anaheim, passing Disneyland, Richland - LA's metro area seems to be constantly growing.

Weather got better and warmer when we got further east, also, traffic became a bit lighter. Windfarms everywhere towards the Palm Springs area. Stopped at Cabazon Outlets (left), knowing that our accommodation wouldn't be available before 3 pm. And, we got some real good deals: Columbia hiking boots ($ 40), Sketchers for $ 25 and some Under Armour sports outfit.

On we drove to Yucca Valley (closeby Joshua Tree National Park), got some basic provisions in Stater Bros. Supermarket before we checked in our beautiful AirBnB.
