Paradise on Earth: Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden

The Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden at Hamakua Coast's Scenic Drive, at Onomea Bay, is called a "Garden in a Valley on the Ocean". It's a one-of-a-kind botanical garden with a fanatastic collection of tropical plants of over 2,000 species.

The entrance way goes over a boardwalk into this garden valley (photo), trails meander through a true tropical rainforest, crossing streams, passing waterfalls and offering ocean vistas along the rugged Pacific coast.

The garden is dedicated to the collection and display of tropical plants from all over the world: palms, ferns, ginger, orchids, bromeliads, and many more. It was created by one man, Dan J. Lutkenhouse, who discovered Onomea Valley in 1977 while vacationing with his wife, Pauline and it was a hell of a task to get the garbage-filled wilderness "in working order". Most amazing thing to us were the huge palms of different varieties and, even more, the different orchids, growing out of tree trunks (pic above, right). Not your ugly purple artificial-looking potted plants at home ,,,

Here is a collection of my close-up flower pics, I was blown away and took many, many photos. Hope you enjoy the splendor, too:
