Not really warm this Friday morning, and, cloudy, too. After a quick breakfast with Water Ave Coffee & Coco Donuts (another highly appraised donut maker) and passing by the Skidmore Fountain in Old Town, we took the streetcar to the Central East Side again.
The Central East Side, as we noticed, is currently the most interesting neighborhood of town. The part we went to this time (the area is huge!), is a completely industrial neighborhood with big warehouses, and, with some culinary surprises mixed in. We got a culinary tour with "The Big Foodie Tours" and Laura, our tourguide, was terrific. Since it was just the two of us, it was very intense and informative. We had a couple of very diverse stops: Smith Teamaker (tea), Olympia Provisions (deli), Alma (a chocolatier), New Deal Distillery (gin, wodka, whiskey, etc.), Jacobsen Salt (sea salt) & Bee Local (honey) and as the grand finale we experienced a coffee cupping at the Coava Coffee Roastery. All of these businesses were sort of hidden in huge warehouses with partly superb murals on the walls.
