The streetcar brought us to the Central East Side, going over one of a dozen Portland bridges: Tilikum Crossing, exclusively for pedestrians/bikers and streetcars. Besides the Portland Opera (first pic), the Heritage Railroad Center and OMSI, the Natural History Museum with a submarine anchored at the waterfront, are the main attractions here.
On to a brewery tour of "Brewvana", which was pretty good, though much too long for us: almost five hours in total! We were a group of six and stopped at four breweries, spread out. The tour consisted of a lot of sampling, of course, would personally have loved to get a bit more information about the breweries. The breweries - Culmination, Laurelwood, Ex Novo and Upright - were very different, the latter tiny, in the basement, Ex Novo a non-profit company, and Laurelwood more "established". New trend seems to be sour beers (gose) and hazy IPAs.
It was almost 6 pm when the tour ended and we took the streetcar to Mississippi - another up&coming neighborhood (pics below) - and checked it out. There are murals, shops and another big food cart pod adjacent to "Prost", a German restaurant, which we, of course, ignored. Instead, we grabbed a bite to eat at another brewery there: Stormbreaker. Back to the hotel at around 9 pm.
And that's why Portland is called "The City of Roses" – they are blooming already!
