Should have stayed in the U.S. instead of flying home for a little more than two weeks. Instead stupid us spent the time in horribly dull, cold, snowy, wet weather. Really longing for warmer weather and some sun now, which we will probably get in Houston/Texas our destination.
No upgrade this time, cramped in a full 3-seater row of a 70 % filled-up Boeing 777-200. Flight got pretty boring, expecially since it seems to become customary to close all window shutters so that the cabin is pitch-dark. Formerly it was sort of a rule to stay awake during the day to be able to sleep at night. Couldn’t sleep on the plane, much too narrow and uncomfortable for that.
Flight time was 9:30 hours. Stiff and bored we arrived to Chicago and then it had to go quickly. Our plane was a little over 20 minutes delayed and our transfer time was only 1,5 hours. And, Chicago is a LARGE airport. Fortunately, red Express slips were distributed at the gate for transfer guests like us. After immigration at the kiosk and picking up our luggage to recheck it, we got to know that we were just barely in the 45 min. time frame to make the connection and that we better ran fast to get from International Terminal to Terminal 3, including a trip on the automated train. Thanks to the red XPress slip, we got into a special security line and it only took us about 10 min. to get through. Then another final run to our gate B 11 where the last boarding group was just about to board. Made the whole run, plane-to-plane in 40 minutes! Not bad for Chicago!
Arrived to Houston on time, picked up our luggage (!), and thanks to a quick Uber, we checked into our brandnew Meridien Hotel Downtown at 8:15 pm already. Went for a beer on the rooftop terrasse bar (with pool), outside, and besides a good local brew we enjoyed the warmth and the view up there:
