Second day of sunshine since our arrival to the U.S.! We spent the morning in Portland still (to take a couple of pics and to revisit Powell's), and left our fancy hotel paying $ 78 (!) for parking. We, of course, had to stop by at the soccer stadium to get Peter his desperately needed cap and even were able to watch the players of the popular Portland Timbers getting ready for the season opener tomorrow.
Then we drove the scenic route through the Willamette Valley, a wine region where the best Pinot Noirs come from, and took a trip on the memory lane, long time ago, when we did research for a wine book and were visiting many of the wineries on our way for tours and tastings. Stopped by at the Evergreen Air & Space Museum at McMinneville, a huge collection of planes, and explored downtown McMinneville, a quaint little town.
On to Lincoln City and, of course, our first destination was the beach. Still have the feeling that the Oregon Coast would be THE place for us to settle down, if there would be a choice.
Our hotel, though not directly on the beach, turned out to be amazingly comfortable and nice, with a balcony and a great view! In the afternoon we did a shopping spree, who wouldn't, considering the fact that the Lincoln City Outlet Mall offers spectacular deals in stores like Eddie Bauer, Columbia, Nike or Jockey? For a change, no appointments today and, in addition, just a simple but delicious meal with fresh bread from a bakery in Portland, Oregon cheeses and Oregon Pinot Noir during sunset over the Pacific Ocean on the balcony of our hotel!
