Rain, rain and more rain
We did a bit of sightseeing in Astoria on tuesday and even were lucky to get a chance to climb the Astoria Column - a "first" for us though we’ve visited the city at least four times before. Standing on Coxcomb Hill it’s the highest point in the area and offers majestic views. It’s patterned after Trajan’s Column in Rome, was completed in 1926 and is about 125 ft. or 164 steps high. Views stretch from the Columbia River to the Pacific Ocean.
The new Garden of Surging Waves in downtown Astoria is a testimony of the rich Chinese heritage in Astoria and very nicely done. Since it started to rain again, we shortened our sightseeing program with Erhard and just caught up with work, answering and writing emails and making arrangements for our next stops on the way South. In the evening our friends had invited another couple, Kay and Art - very pleasant, interesting people. Elfi outdid herself in preparing „Schnitzel auf dem Blech“ (pork chops with porcini, gratinated with cheese and whipped cream), served with carots, spaetzle and salad.
It’s been a lovely evening and we were a little sad that we had to depart the next morning after another gourmet breakfast.
