Sunshine City Tucson

Tucson - as I said before - is spread out, and, even "downtown" in total isn't easily walkable. Actually, there are several "centers", e.g. Mercado San Agostin, 4th Street District and Downtown, the University district, Barrio Viejo and Presidio. Fortunately, they are all connected by a modern streetcar, which is not too quick, but convenient, and, at the moment it's complementary. So, we parked the car at the Mercado San Agustin (below) in the morning and had coffee there first.

By streetcar we went all the way to the University of Arizona, beautiful, vast grounds and partly historic, partly modern buildings, plus, great views. This highly ranked university was founded in 1885 and has over 40,000 students, the "Wildcats".

Most attractive in Tucson is the 4th Street District and adjacent Downtown with a lot of shops and restaurants and murals.

Barrio Viejo, where we drove next, is sort of the "gallery district" of town, with beautiful architecture, but infrastructurally not too much going on. Discovered a nice little free library (typewriter included) in this neighborhood.

Next stop was the Presidio San Agustin del Tucson with many colorful shops (and one restaurant) in one complex, some historic buildings, one containing a museum. Afterwards had "dinner" in the Boxyard, a container food court on 4th Street and stopped by at Corbett Brewing for Happy Hour.

Before we went to the hockey game - the AHL team Tucson Roadrunners (farm team of the Arizona Coyotes) were playing against Ontario (California) - we went to church, or, rather checked out the huge St. Augustine Cathedral (pic above). The hockey game was good, but atmosphere,,, not so much,,, And, the local team lost.
