Shenandoah National Park

Saturday morning - departure from Richmond to Shenandoah National Park. Guess what? For the first time it rained out of buckets, and, our day was wet and cloudy and foggy. Due to the rain we took the short route, entering the Park from Swift Run Gap at U.S. 33, after a 2-hour drive from Richmond. On the Skyline Drive south to Rockfish Gap we were most of the time "fogged", clouds laying on the road, and, driving wasn't really fun.

Though it stopped raining and there were plenty of overlooks, we got not many good views of the Shenandoah Valley. Glad to have at least a couple of viable photos!

We thought, weather would improve towards he south, and, continued on the Blue Ridge Parkway, but there it was almost worse. Clouds laying on the roads!

So, we turned around and drove into Charlottesville, our destination of the day, in Albemarle County, and, first of all, a vivid university town.

There, we are staying in a hip, unusual motel - The Little Mod Hotel - on 14th St., the main axle where students live in large numbers in historic houses. Quite an unusual neighborhood for a hotel, newly opened! From the outside: a regular motel (with a food truck in front!), from the inside: fancy, modern 1960s style, bright and comfy and with all amenities.
