Vegas here we come!

Of course,,, snow this morning! As if it couldn’t have stayed dry for another day! Not too bad, but, nevertheless, I was a bit anxious (hate to drive in the snow on these remote roads) and, therefore we departed early. It had stopped snowing in Elko by then, but there were snowdrifts on the way out. And, it became worse on the way towards Ely, in an attitude up to 7,500 ft. (2.500 m). For the first time, it was good to have trucks in front of us, to "mark the trail“. Even Beverly Hills was snowed in ! Leaving Ely, approx. halfaround Lund, there was another section with snow-covered roads. Glad, that roads were dead straight and traffic slow! Wouldn’t have wanted to brake too often or unexpectedly!

After not quite 7 hours of pure driving time and 430 miles (almost 700 km) through beautiful high desert and mountain landscape, we arrived to Vegas  a bit before 3 pm. Car became pretty dirty!

Sunshine and around 60 deg F now (16 deg C) - what a change to the 6 deg (-15 C) and less we had before in Elko! And, what a change in traffic, too: 10 lanes, crazy sportscar-drivers and everybody driving too fast and aggressive!

Well, we found the parking garage of our pre-arranged Hotel Paris - one of the big theme hotels along the strip - easily, but then it took time. We walked over to the hotel reception with our luggage (criss-crossing the casino) and, boy, lines were endless!!! It took us over 45 min. to get the key-card to our room, which is in the 25th floor and nice and large and with a view!

Then, wanting to get some work done, I got to know the hard way, that only two devices are included in the resort fee (!) and can’t be changed anymore. Mind you, that’s only true for the room, because everywhere else in the complex internet is free anyway. Isn’t that crazy? So, I am right now sitting in the hotel lobby and working on the laptop, my third device. Read the 2-device-rule too late and had my mobile phone already registered (and, Peter his iPad).

We went out again to check out some things along the strip, then took the Deuce bus to get to the Arts District, actually, the more interesting part of town in the meantime. At Nevada Brew Works, our fav brewery in Vegas, we ate a pizza and had a beer, and, called it a day. Bus trip was endless, too, stop-and-go traffic - like in the „old times“ before COVID and so different from October 2021 when we were visiting for the last time, for a conference. Still have to get used again to the noise, the hectic and the completely different lifestyle here!
