The Cowboy State and The Daddy of Em'All: Cheyenne/Wyoming

Cheyenne/Wyoming is an easy 100 mi drive from Denver/CO on I-25. And, it was our first contact with the short-grass prairie and with wide open land and endless horizons.

We stopped at the new, architectonically remarkable Welcome Center at the state line CO-WY (photo below), not only an information center, but also showing interesting exhibitions about the State of WY and lots of info materials.

Checked out downtown Cheyenne, respiring "Wild West", cowboys and cattle barons, rodeo and railroad. The heart beats at Depoe Square and adjecent downtown, at the old railroad station (with a museum) and on main street with a couple of cowboy/girl related museums and old buildings, murals as well as a legend for cowboy wear: The Wrangler.

Cheyenne women were strong in enforcing voting rights – in 1890, Wyoming became the first U.S. state allowing its woman citizens to vote.

The Wyoming State Capitol - the "people's house" -  was next, recently renovated and a gem among the capitols of the U.S.

Probably the city is best known for "The Daddy of 'Em All" - the Cheyenne Frontier Days, which take place in July since 1897 with the world's largest outdoor rodeo and Western Celebration. We visited the CFD Old West Museum, telling about this event, but, unfortunately, didn't get into the arena ,,, One more item on our bucket list,,,

Adjacent to the rodeo space is the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens in Pioneer Park, a neat garden area with a huge greenhouse and a lake.

Called it a day at Black Tooth Brewing, a craftbrewery in town, where we enjoyed a country music singer on stage with our cold IPAs.
